The Best Picture Winners of the Century

The Best Picture Winners of the Century

The saga of the Best Picture Winners of the Century has been a bumpy road, indicating an organization in flux. Going from five nominees to a possible ten nominees, really changed a lot, but the greatest impact on the Best Picture Winners of the Century, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, probably came after accusations of a lack of diversity led to an expanded group of minority members. Although the winners since then have included some of the most critically-panned Best Picture Winners of the Century. So, where did Roger Ebert and his staff line up with the Oscars? Where did they deviate? Interestingly, Roger seems to agree with a lot of the winners of the 2000s (other than the first), but things get trickier in the 2010s, including films this staff loves like “Moonlight” and “12 Years a Slave,” and ones they…well, don’t, like “Green Book.” All of our reviews of the Best Picture Winners of the Century, starting with the most recent and then moving back to 2000's "Gladiator."
